Full-time

Flight Physics - Aircraft Dynamics Engineer (m/f/d)
Bruchsal, Germany

Here at Volocopter, we are the pioneers of electric air taxis (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft - eVTOLs). We have pledged to bring sustainable urban air mobility to life by getting electric air taxis off the ground in a way that complements existing transportation options in megacities across the globe. In 2011 we carried out the first-ever crewed flight of a fully electric multicopter and have since conducted more than 2,000 public and private test flights across the world (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

You are an experienced structural dynamics engineer and have demonstrated experience in structural dynamics of aircraft. You are aware of the requirement for multidisciplinary stability analysis (aerodynamics, flight control) and know respective analysis methods. Within a highly motivated multi-disciplinary team you will work closely with aerodynamicists, flight control experts, structural designers, and analysts to provide dynamic analysis to support the aircraft development and certification process.

Your mission during this flight:

  • Develop and validate dynamic Finite Element Method (FEM) models for structural and aeroelastic applications.
  • Create and validate static non-linear FEM models to support complex structural assessments.
  • Perform Ground Vibration Testing (GVT) and analyze resulting data to support and execute structural model validation.
  • Execute aeroelastic-aeroservoelastic analyses, including flutter, closed-loop stability and dynamic response evaluations.
  • Develop linearized models for flight control components such as control laws, electric motors, and rotors.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for certification activities, including technical reports and compliance plans.
Qualifications

Check in your professional skills:

  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree (MSc, Ph.D.)
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in the field of rotorcraft airframe dynamics
  • Knowledge of aircraft airframe dynamics including aeroelastic effects (preferably for rotorcraft)
  • Experience with structural model validation process based on test data (GVT, flight test)
  • Demonstrated experience with FEM methods and tools
  • Confident knowledge of Nastran, Patran, Femap, Matlab, and Python
  • Previous involvement in type certification processes
  • Structured way of working and a high sense of accountability

Bonus Qualifications:
