Part-time
Here at Volocopter, we are the pioneers of electric air taxis (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft - eVTOLs). We have pledged to bring urban air mobility to life by getting electric air taxis and other eVTOLs off the ground in a way that complements existing transportation options in megacities across the globe. Our aim is to offer affordable, on-demand air taxi services that fly people to their destination quickly and safely. In 2011 we carried out the first-ever piloted flight of a fully electric multicopter and have since conducted more than 1,500 public and private test flights across the world (www.volocopter.com).
Your mission during this flight:
Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary core team you will work under the direct supervision of the Aircraft Stress Engineer on the recent advancement in the VTOL configurations. You will support the preliminary and detailed sizing of metallic and composite structures subject to static and dynamic loads by using classical hand calculations and finite element analyses. You will iterate between stress analysis and mechanical design of the parts. You will have the opportunity to make hands-on experience by supporting the manufacturing and the physical testing of the components.
Stress analysis of metallic and composite components using classical analytical calculations and FE analysis.
Set up FE models and automatize calculations with scripts, informatic tools and spreadsheets
Support mechanical design (CAD), manufacturing and quality control of the parts
Prepare and execute physical testing of parts if necessary
Present your work to all interested stakeholders and iterate between stress analysis and mechanical design
Check in your professional skills:
Student in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or comparable subject
Academical/professional knowledge of structural design, and properties of metals and composite materials
Good understanding of structures and their behaviour (static and dynamic)
Proven experience with FEA tools (NX, HyperMesh/Optistruct/Nastran are a benefit)
(internships, curricular projects, or any other working experience)
Basic knowledge of Phyton, VBA and/or Matlab
Experience with crash simulation will be an advantage
Hands-on experience with composite materials is a benefit
Availability to work for 20 h/week on site from May 2024 for at least 6 months
Eligibility to work in Germany as a student
