Material Testing Engineer (m/f/d)

We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).
You will be part of our fast-growing Quality Team and will join an experienced group of Aviation-Quality-Engineers. We are working on different topics like compliance, approvals, quality-assurance and industry standards.
Your mission during this flight:
- You will join our Quality-Management Team and will be responsible for managing our Quality laboratory for composites material testing proceeding from NCR, in process control and incoming inspections requirements. You will assist the Quality Assurance Team and Manufacturing Team by ensuring that specimens test results meets all regulatory, industrial and internal requirements.
- You will manage composites material testing activities, including scheduling, planning, preparation and execution of specimens testing.
- You will analyze the temperature and heat flows associated with material transitions from DSC data outputs.
- You will create testing procedures (materials/tools to use, steps to follow, processing parameters, etc.), work instructions, technical cards and testing quality reports following laboratory standards.
- You will ensure all machines are always in good conditions and prevent any problems.
- You will control and maintain safety, quality, and customer focus in activities.
- You have an academic background in Mechanical, Materials Science, Material or Process Engineering or equivalent.
- You have 3+ years of proven work experience in material/composite testing for destructive testing or similar role.
- You show initiative, enjoy accountability, have a solution-oriented way of working and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- You have knowledge in aerospace and manufacturing engineering specifications, and Standard Test Methods including ASTM, AMS, ISO etc.
- You have experience with performing DSC and mechanical material testing such as glass transition, curing, tension, compression and SBS tests.
- You have excellent English skills - both written and spoken
Preferred Skills:
- You have experience in EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and Nadcap MTL
- You have German language knowledge
