We at Volocopter are the pioneers of electric air taxis, i.e. aircraft that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring urban air mobility to life, by getting air taxis and drones off the gorund in a way that complements current transportation options in megacities across the globe. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services that fly people to their destination quickly and safely. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electric multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale VoloCity aircrafts (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Your mission during this flight:

Your mission during this flight: You will be responsible for the automated flight function of the Volocopter's product lines and developing them to the next level. Together with the experience and knowledge already in-house you will be adapting, designing and implementing new functions and technologies into a new type of aircraft. Your job will not only be on the desk but also fully hands on the equipment and on the aircraft. SW testing, overseeing quality of the code base, assist SW team in implementing new features with preferably one key skill in one of the automation functions (Guidance, Navigation, Control, Surveillance, Mission Management) is part of the daily job. 

  • You will design, develop, test, and integrate automation functions SW testing (CI/CD).
  • You will maintain software documentation and assist in the development of user documentation.
  • You will propose innovative idea for SW development in a safety critical environment.
  • You will assist with  the development of automated/autonomous flight functions on real systems (25-100 kg all up weight drones).
Qualifications

Check in your professional skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years embedded software development experience or algorithm development in C/C++, and/or other high-level programming languages.
  • Extensive knowledge of autonomous flight technologies and pipeline Version control (Git) Knowledge in DO178C.
  • Demonstrated software development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly in C/C++ Digital communication standards (e.g. SPI, I²C, UART, CAN …), aerospace standards and bus systems.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS).
  • Experience implementing embedded C/C++ software in a Real Time Operating System environment.
  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum software development process.
  • Experience with HW sensors integration Knowledge of operating systems (main Linux distributions) and application testing (unit test, functional test, simulation, etc.).
