We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. Job Description

Your future Volocopter crew:

Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team you develop and refine the state-of-the-art composite structure of the Volocopter that is key to its best-in-class performance

Your mission during this flight:

As our Structural Design Engineer, your mission is to ensure the design of our airframe primary structure complies with the EASA requirements and certification process. You will provide technical expertise to ensure that company goals for the airframe design are met in terms of structural integrity, certification, serviceability, cost, and weight.

Your Tasks:

  • Conduct technical research and evaluate design concepts
  • Align on interfaces with other systems including future updates
  • Detail design of structural concepts according to requirements (e.g. lightweight, manufacturability, cost efficiency, maintainability)
  • Continuously align with relevant disciplines (e.g. Stress, Production, Procurement, Integration, etc.)
  • Create prototyping and design data
  • Evaluate prototypes and manufacturing data
  • Document all design decisions and descriptions
  • Specify the component design through CAD models, drawings and instructions
  • Interact with suppliers
  • Support manufacturing issues
  • Improve the existing structural components
Qualifications

Check-in your professional skills:

  • Master Degree in Structural Aeronautic System or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the aviation industry
  • Experience in the design of primary composite structures
  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering design software and engineering drawing creation (e.g. CAD, FEM, PLM, MathCad, Python)
  • Knowledge of the physical phenomena relevant to aircraft design
  • Creativity for developing new concepts

Preferred skills:

  • Teamcenter Engineering & NX Experience
  • Scaling frameworks (e.g. SAFe)
  • Understanding of Business Agility, Customer Centricity, and Design Thinking
  • Structural design experience in the eVTOL industry
