We at Volocopter are the pioneers of electric air taxis, i.e. aircraft that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring urban air mobility to life, by getting air taxis and drones off the gorund in a way that complements current transportation options in megacities across the globe. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services that fly people to their destination quickly and safely. Job Description

Your crew during this flight:

The Battery Team comprises more than 10 nationalities striving hard to deliver on Volocopter's promise of Electrification of Aviation. From building new things to utilizing current technologies, we follow an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving. 

Your mission during this flight:

  • You assist the Battery team in investigating the different crash and handling scenarios of the Aircraft Battery Pack by performing explicit structural simulations
  • You will be part of the Mechanical Integration team inside the Battery team and involved in the day-to-day design discussions of the battery pack
  • You develop FE models to investigate the possible crash/impact scenarios and interpret the results to improve the entire product development process
  • You are in charge of numerical modelling (pre-processing), solving, and post-processing of the results
  • You develop expertise in the highly futuristic field at the intersection of electrification, eVTOL certification, and high-energy physics
Qualifications

Check in your professional skills:

  • You are currently studying towards a degree in Computational Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
  • Knowledge of nonlinear implicit and explicit FEA methods
  • Familiarity with the use of commercial explicit FEA software, e.g., Radioss, LS-Dyna, Abaqus/Explicit, Pam-Crash is required
  • Experience in using commercial pre-processing tools (Hypermesh, NX etc)
  • Willingness to learn new FEM techniques
  • Team player, hands-on and can-do attitude, high sense of liability and accountability, solution-oriented 

 Preferred skills: 

  • Non-linear Explicit FEM
  • LS-DYNA/RADIOSS/ABAQUS Explicit
  • Hypermesh/NX Simcenter/ANSA-META
