Working Student Electric Propulsion (m/f/d)
Munich, Germany

We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Your future Volocopter crew:

Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary core team, you will have a significant impact on the development and prototyping of Volocopter's next generation and its technologies.
Working together with our Flight Control Team of Voloconnect (Volocopter’s next-generation long-range transitioning aircraft), you are a key member of the development team located in central Munich.

We develop cutting-edge technology with a focus on implementation. We are laser-focused on making things work reliably and robust. We cut unnecessary complexity. We are pragmatic and we thrive for excellence. We support each other, and we trust each other. We hire the best; hence we respect each other's knowledge. We challenge each other so that we get better. We accept our failures, our shortcomings, our lack of knowledge so that we can learn and be better at what we are doing.

Your mission during this flight:

  • Support embedded SW and HW development at the various interfaces between our distributed Avionics and Flight control HW components
  • Develop low-level firmware (e.g. drivers) for a variety of HW units using C-language (this will include carefully reading Datasheets and other Documentation)
  • Compile, flash, and test that SW for/on different HWs
  • Debug your code and our hardware using advanced Lab equipment
  • Continuous Development and Integration using GIT and Jenkins
  • Adapt available (legacy) HW and SW to today's need - for shorter development cycles (this will include soldering)

Qualifications

Check in your professional skills:

  • Hands-On attitude, passion for making/seeing stuff work/move/fly
  • The idea of working on 3+ different HWs + Software projects for solving one problem, does not scare you
  • PhD (preferred), Master (preferred) or Bachelor student in the field of Computer Sciences, Robotics, Electronic Engineering. (However: real-world experience and passion beats academic degrees)
  • Excellent knowledge of STM32 microcontrollers or similar (ARM processors)
  • Excellent C knowledge
  • Record of Embedded SW development projects (providing open-source code is an asset)
  • A solid base of electronics knowledge is a must including testing and verification
  • Experience in (SMD) soldering is crucial
  • Experience with make, GIT, Jenkins helps a lot
  • You likely are the best match when your hobbies taught you more about your future job than your studies
