Quality Engineer Battery Packs (m/f/d)

We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Your mission during this flight:

  • Work closely with Battery Development engineers and perform battery pack inspection planning and assurance activities
  • Develop inspection plans and inspection procedures with the proper level of maturity taking Aviation standards into account(e.g. Advanced Product Quality Planning)
  • Perform acceptance tests on flight intended battery packs and prepare flight article documents
  • Define Production-Part-Approval Process (PPAP) incl. First-Article-Inspection steps and prepare the Battery Production for serial production
  • Analyze data collected during the manufacturing and use Statistical Process Control to reduce Inspection afford in manufacturing
  • Coordinate and lead Material-Review-Board for the production
  • Organize and maintain the battery production area and equipment, while strictly adhering to best practices, proper documentation, and safety awareness
  • Work closely with other quality engineers to implement Continuous Improvement topics
Qualifications

Check-in your professional skills:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or other relevant disciplines with experience working on Battery Packs
  • Experience working with high-voltage, high power systems
  • Experience with quality standards (e.g. APQP, P-FMEA, Control-Plan, SPC, FAI, etc.)
  • Basic domain knowledge including battery wire-bonding, assembly of Aviation Hardware, and high voltage safety
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques and analytical ability
  • Maintains a clean workspace and inventory of tools and equipment
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills required


Preferred skills:

  • Experience with aviation hardware and software development desired
  • Experience with the production of Battery Packs
  • Experience defining inspections steps on Assembly-level
  • Familiarity with battery pack inspection procedures
  • Experienced with high voltage Lithium-ion battery systems.
