We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We are bringing urban air mobility to life by introducing our air taxis and drones as an electric addition to current transportation options in megacities worldwide. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011, we performed the first-ever crewed flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopters (www.volocopter.com).

Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary core team, you will have a significant impact on the development and prototyping of Volocopter's next generation and its technologies. Working together with our Voloconnect Team (Volocopter’s next-generation long-range transitioning aircraft), you are a key member of the development team located in central Munich.

Your mission during this flight:

You will be working conceptually on the entire aircraft and its subsystems supporting the design and verification activities on ongoing and future aircraft prototypes.

• Conducting design trades, optimizations for final product configuration definitions considering safety, strength, weight, & producibility
• Extraction and utilization of finite element analysis internal loads data
• From preliminary to detailed sizing, static, dynamic, damage tolerance, and modal analysis of major structural aircraft components utilizing both classical hand calculations and finite element analysis
• Supporting design reviews and signing off on structural parts
• Establish new and work on existing structural detailed and global FE models for all structural aircraft systems
• Overseeing and supporting structural tests, including definition, planning, requirements, and report writing
• Directly communicating with mechanical design, team, and integration teams

Check in your professional skills:

• Hands-on attitude with a broad range of development experience
• You are very quick in understanding structural topics and quick in execution
• Strong experience and knowledge in prototyping
• On-field experience with vehicles (e.g. racing cars, aircraft,...)
• Quick problem-solving skills and mindset
• Track record of successfully performed development/prototyping projects
• 3+ years of working experience in relevant industry (racing, automotive or aerospace)
• Engineering degree (MSc, PhD) or equivalent
• Strong tool experience in FE (Hyperworks, Patran/Nastran)
• Structured way of working, high sense of responsibility and accountability
• Team player, self-starter, flexibility
• Very good English language skills (written & spoken), very good German language skills is a benefit
• Ultimately, we need you to be able to enjoy the fun, excitement and fast pace of Volocopter

Preferred skills:

• Strong CAD experience (Siemens NX is a benefit)
