Get to know the Asia-Pacific Team!
How big is the team and where is it based?
Currently, we are a team of eight, serving as the regional office for the Asia-Pacific region. We deal with business development, aviation certification, public relations, marketing, and people & organization.
How would you describe your day at work?
Here at the APAC team, we are working on introducing urban air mobility to the Asian inner urban environments. As Singapore is our first confirmed city for commercial launch in Asia, our work revolves around deepening our working relations with the Singaporean authorities and key stakeholders. By conducting extensive market research, we seek to understand customer demands to create a specific go-to-market plan for our city launch at the end of 2023. In addition, we explore R&D projects with local academic institutions and stay in close contact with local industries.
Closer to the launch, we plan to open a public-facing showcase to increase further public awareness and acceptance of our innovative service in the city-state. Across the broader Asian region, we are also making significant progress in leading the discussion with several regional partners. Recently, we announced our joint venture with Geely to introduce UAM to the Chinese Market as well as our close cooperation with Japan Airlines to explore business opportunities for air mobility solutions in Japan.
Is there a special project you are currently working on?
We just completed our first Volo2X public flight in Korea at Gimpo Airport. This was a huge milestone for us as it represented an integral part of our business development roadmap in Asia. We managed to demonstrate the technological superiority of our product and strengthened our local business relations. Such a major event required the entire team’s effort and this relates to what we like the most about our APAC team: We help each other out and work together to achieve the best possible outcome!
What are the challenges of your job?
There is one constant in the urban air mobility world: we can only launch when we have all the required certifications and approvals. Sometimes we would like to start sooner rather than later to create awareness of our product and promote launch activities. But we need to avoid overwhelming our stakeholders, especially authorities and government bodies. Close alignment with those parties is crucial for our successful launch activities – in Singapore and the broader region.
Can you share a fun fact about your team?
Our team is addicted to coffee. We need this energizing beverage to be creative. One day we came to our Singapore office and one of our teammates promised that the coffee in the office kitchen improved over the days. So, the whole team gathered with very high expectations in the kitchen and was looking forward to the delicious beverage. However, the coffee quality remained the same, and this one colleague was just already used to the bad taste. In the future, we will rely on our team baristas Willy and Ryan to make the coffee experience in our office kitchen a truly amazing one!
What projects are planned for the future? Are there any vacant positions on your team?
We are always looking for talented people to join our exciting regional team. The most recent open positions range from business development in China to business development/administration internships in Singapore. We will continue to grow in the region next year, so keep an eye out for upcoming exciting vacancies in Japan, Korea, and China.
